Antique Bookcase Refreshed For Today’s Style

I found this antique bookcase, in a basement, in a back corner, covered in papers, at an estate sale.  It had great bones, nice lines, was solid but needed some refreshing and a little style.    I negotiated a price which included bringing it up from the basement and to my van for me.  I surely didn’t want to haul it up the stairs and around all the other stuff in the house.   I brought it home and knew it would look great again. I’ll start with “The After” because my before is so bad.

She was stripped, sanded, prepped and stained in Jacobean to bring out the wood tones and keep the antique feel.  Finished with a low sheen varnish.    The inside I envisioned a color. I decided yellow.  The color is Veranda by Home Depot.  I think it keeps it looking antique but with a bit of style.

Now more after shots, notice the detailing at the bottom and the beautiful wood.sidestopyellow insidedetails legmain

I think is perfect in a room for book storage of course.  I also wanted to show you it can be used in a bedroom to store jewelry and scarves.   It can be used in an office for your papers and pens. If you add baskets to the bookcase you really could store anything!   Perfect in a dining room to hold your pretty dishes.   I think you could find it’s great anywhere!  Who doesn’t need more storage with style!

Thanks for looking!
