Hello Manly Side Dresser! This dresser just kind of evolved into it’s style. I bought it at an estate sale, it was in a back corner, getting no attention. The pretty antiques and special glassware was getting all the attention, until we walked in. While looking at the pretty glassware because who doesn’t like blue and pink and red glassware to style in their home. This guy was sitting alone, in a corner and when I saw the wood front, I ran to it. Well not really ran because you really shouldn’t show that much interest in something at an estate sale. He was in rough shape. You see that water stained top, don’t you?! But did you notice those drawer fronts?! Those glorious looking, almost flawless drawer fronts! A quick inspection showed that those drawers work perfectly, not a tug or sag when opening them. The uniqueness of the drawer fronts is just unique. The dresser was solid and the tag was quickly snatched up — by me!
Here is the before.
Some wet towels and a hot iron all that peeling veneer came up and no more water stains. A deep sanding and then a fine sanding made for a nice smooth top. Now the color?? I knew I wanted the drawer fronts to stay wood, just they were too perfect to paint. The color had me puzzled. I did a small washstand in green before, but I couldn’t remember the color and I thought that might be nice for this small dresser. So off to Lowe’s I went and picked out Smokey Slate by Olympic. It turned out to be a little more grey than I had planned but I LOVE it! So much that I’ve named it my “manly color.” This guy got 2 coats of paint and 2 coats of the General Finishes High Performance top coat that I rave about and most likely will not use anything else again!
Thanks for looking and I’d like to say he’s for sale but he’s already SOLD! He sold in 4 days when we put him in our booth!
